Pink Fuzzy Baboons in Space Part 2

Posted on Sep 18, 2014 in Blog, pink fuzzy baboons

I recently attended a class with Steve Scott. In the class, Steve talks about how he got the key phrase “Pink Fuzzy Baboons in Space” ranked at the top of the Google search results. I am certain that Mr. Scott uses this example in several of the classes that he teaches. So, I am here to say “Hello” to Steve with my own post about “Pink Fuzzy Baboons in Space“. Pink Fuzzy Monkeys in Space? Is a monkey similar to a baboon? I think a baboon may be a type of monkey, but I don’t think any of them are pink. In this post I used the key phrase in the page tittle, I am also going to include the bold text about baboons and pink fuzzy things that exist or may not exist in outer space. I am also going to include a picture of fuzzy baboons with some alt-text related to this phrase. Here are some things related to our topic: Baboons Space Ships Rockets Monkeys Pink Animals When we think about pink fuzzy baboons in space, it is easy to think about other things that are pink and fuzzy. My daughter has a stuffed baboon animal that she keeps in the closet. We asked her if...

Yahoo! Emails Not Coming through Contact Form

Posted on Jun 12, 2014 in Blog, contact forms

Due to recent changes at Yahoo!, contact forms submitted from your website may not be making it to your inbox. They don’t even go into your spam folder, they simply disappear. Note: This only happens if the person who filled out your form is using a Yahoo! email address. Essentially, what is happening is that your email provider is checking to see if they email was actually sent by Yahoo!. Because the email originates at your website (not Yahoo!) it is discarded before it ever makes it into your inbox. You can read more in the links below: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2141120/yahoo-email-antispoofing-policy-breaks-mailing-lists.html http://yahoo.tumblr.com/post/82426971544/an-update-on-our-dmarc-policy-to-protect-our-users Solution We have come up with a solution to this problem. However, this means you have to change the way you reply to messages. Below is a screenshot from Gmail, showing how to copy and paste the sender’s address into the reply field. Your email client may be different, but the process is the same. 1. Copy the sender’s email address from the body of the form. 2. Paste the sender’s email address in the ‘reply-to’ box. Information on how to apply this fix can be found here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/yahoo-senders-not-going-through Below is a screenshot of the changes made within Contact Form 7: 1. copy the code from the ‘from’ field:...

What is Your Bounce Rate & Why Does it Matter?

Posted on Jun 25, 2013 in Blog

Your bounce rate represents the percentage of visitors who enter your website and “bounce” (leave). Here is an example of a website that has NOT been optimized for mobile devices. You can see the mobile bounce rate is much higher than the desktop bounce rate. Here is an example of a website that HAS been optimized for mobile devices: As you can see, the website optimized for mobile devices has a much lower bounce rate. Believe it or not, Google takes this into consideration when delivering it’s search results. Google wants to provide relevant search results to it’s users. If your bounce rate is high, your search positions could be slipping. So, what can you do to lower your bounce rate? There are several things you can do to lower your bounce rate. If your website is not optimized for mobile, people who visit your website on their mobile phone will not be able to read the text, or click on your navigation links. Most people will simply click away and your mobile bounce rate will go up. Fortunately, there is an easy way to fix this. Your mobile website does not have to be complex. In fact, the simpler the better. Your mobile users are generally looking for...

Domain Registry of America SCAM!

Posted on Jan 28, 2013 in Blog

I am writing this post to notify all my customers of a scam by Domain Registry of America. If you  registered your own domain (.com address), you will probably receive a letter from this company at some time. The letter appears to be an official document making it look like you risk losing your domain if you don’t send them money. The truth is, these people have nothing to do with your domain. So, how did they get your name? …  In most cases, when you registered your domain, your contact information is public. They simply look for domains that are about to expire and send everyone this notice. I personally can’t believe they are allowed to do this. But, enough people must send them money because this scam has been going on for years!   Most of our customers register their domains through Godaddy, Network Solutions, Register.com or Dynadot. You should renew your domains there, never with Domain Registry of America. The letter opens like this: “As a courtesy (yeah right) to domain name holders, we are sending you this notification of the domain name registration that is due to expire in the next few months….” The letter goes on to say: “You must renew your domain name...

1/29/13 – Here is an update to the Headway IE9 Compatibility view bug. In order to tell IE9 how to display the page correctly, we must add some code to the header of our Headway theme. First, we need to create a child them. Then add the following code to the child theme’s functions.php file:   /** * Added to disable compatibility view in ie9 must be moved to child functions */ function insert_header_script() { echo ‘<meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=edge” />’; } add_action(‘headway_html_open’,’insert_header_script’);   1/27/13 There is a known bug in the Headway Theme causes pages not to display correctly in Internet Explorer 9 (IE9). To correct this please do the following: Open your web page in Internet Explorer 9. Make sure the “Tools” menu is visible. If not, right click the top of your browser and make sure “Menu Bar” is checked. Open the “Tools” menu make sure “Compatibility View” is not checked.  ...

Norton

This page was reprinted from Search Engine News and is published on Tampa Graphic Design website. March 2004, Year EIGHT, Issue Three, Page Four Hate Ads? Norton Internet Security to the Rescue!?! Who’d a thunk a firewall would be set by default to screen advertising? — by Stephen Mahaney If you hate ads, then you’ll be delighted to know that Norton Personal Firewall / Internet Security 2004 (NPFW/IS2004) comes shipped with an ad-blocking feature – with the default set to ON! Now, isn’t that thoughtful? No longer will your customers need to worry about clicking your money links when they frequent your site. When they read descriptions for certain products and services you’re offering they’ll ponder those missing links because, (drum roll, please) Ta Daaaaa, Norton has nuked em! …yep, wipes them entirely from the source code being displayed by your browser. In fact, NPFW/IS2004 does such a good job of blocking ads that your site visitor can even turn ad-blocking OFF, hit reload, and the ads will still be gone! …pretty slick, eh? that’s because NPFW/IS2004 removes the ads from the source code itself! Ohmygosh! Of course, by now, you should be asking yourself… Will that cut into my affiliate sales?…uh, yeah. Does it nuke my display ads?...
